Removal of Asbestos Flooring Including PCM Clearance Testing

EE&G was retained by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to conduct a final air sample testing. The project included fiber and air analysis as well as removal and disposal of all asbestos-containing materials performed by EE&G Construction and Electrical. After the asbestos was successfully removed a final inspection was conducted to make sure that the cleared area was then safe to be reoccupied.

When dealing with asbestos removal and air clearing testing, the final inspection is believed to be the most important part of the process. The EE&G team focused on the following to make sure the area is safe for re-occupancy.

Timing

The asbestos air clearance is essential for properties such as spaces Pinecrest Plaza: Former Dry Cleaner Tenant Space. Final Air Sample Testing was conducted immediately after the asbestos removal. It was conducted before the abatement containment was taken down to make sure that the potential release of fibers in the air was prevented.

Air Sample Testing

EE&G collected all necessary air samples in the work area.

Asbestos Containing Materials

Some asbestos-containing materials included: former dry cleaner tenant space, black floor mastic underneath, black floor mastic underneath red and white, black floor mastic on red and white, and black HVAC mastic – Approximately 100 SF.

Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM)

EE&G collected Transmission Electron Microscopy final clearance air samples in the work area under aggressive conditions. EMSL subsequently analyzed the samples using (TEM) techniques in accordance with the 40CFR763 AHERA Method. The airborne asbestos fiber levels for the five TEM Final Air Clearance samples collected and were determined to be less than 14.00 structures per millimeter squared. This means they presented no asbestos-related health hazards to future workers or tenants.

Other Measures

The EE&G technicians regulated and enclosed the work area that was being abated. The asbestos material collected was then placed into asbestos disposal waste bags, sealed, taken out through a waste decontamination unit, and finally stored in a specially labeled trailer or dumpster that was designed with a protective poly lining.
