Asbestos Removal at Miami Beach Community Church Sanctuary Building

EE&G was retained by the Miami Beach Community Church of Florida to conduct final clearance air testing following the removal of asbestos-containing black HVAC duct.
Task 1 – Abatement Contractor for Asbestos Removal and Clearance Air Monitoring

EE&G provided labor and materials to wet remove and dispose of the asbestos-containing materials. Work was conducted following a pre-determined schedule of 6-7 workdays in one continuous mobilization. EE&G technicians conducted final clearance air monitoring and provided project supervision, under the supervision of a Florida-licensed Asbestos Consultant, for the removal of asbestos-containing materials.

EE&G collected seventeen (17) air samples within the containment using high-volume air pumps to draw air through 25-millimeter (mm) diameter mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filters with 0.8-micron diameter pores that were mounted in plastic cassettes with 50-millimeter anti-static cowls. The pumps were calibrated in the field with a rotometer, which had been calibrated using a primary standard to a flow rate of 10 liters of air per minute (LPM).

Air samples were analyzed by phase-contrast microscopy (PCM) in accordance with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Method 7400 with results reported as fiber per cubic centimeter of air (f/cc) and compared to the United States Environmental Protection Agency clean air standard of 0.010 f/cc of air.
The PCM analysis indicated that the fiber concentration for the air samples collected in the enclosures was less than 0.005 f/cc. Therefore, the results obtained were below the EPA standard and indicated a “pass.”
